Request/Ask a Librarian

Persons affiliated with SFC can use the online request forms below to apply for all of the following services.

Persons affiliated with other Keio campuses can also access the "ILL Requests (Books)", "ILL Requests (Photocopies)", and "Reference Question"

1. ILL Requests (Books)

ⅰ) Reservation of Shonan Fujisawa Media Center books and material that are currently on loan

 request via KOSMOS My Library .

ⅱ) Requests for material from other Keio Media Centers

 It is possible to request books that are not available at the Shonan Fujisawa Media Center from other. Keio campus libraries via the ILL service. Refer to Book ILL Service for more details. 

 Use the Book Reservations / Interlibrary Loan of Books Request Form or submit a
 request via KOSMOS My Library .

Notes

  • Use your sfc.keio.ac.jp domain email as your contact address, as automatic alerts from the library system cannot be sent to Hotmail accounts.
  • Apply separately for each book you wish to reserve. Be sure to include your name, the book title and other required information.
  • First confirm on KOSMOS that the book you want is not held at Shonan Fujisawa Media center.
  • There is no limit to the number of books you can borrow (except the books of Collaboration Complex Library).
  • Some material cannot be borrowed. This includes periodicals, dictionaries and reference books, statistics and yearbooks, white papers, and statues and law report. For details refer to ILL Availability List (in Japanese only). Books that are listed on KOSMOS as for class use, re-cataloging, at bindery, mending, unaccouted for, or lost cannot be reserved.

ⅲ) Requests for material from domestic and international libraries

 Books that are not available at Keio Media Centers may be requested from non-Keio libraries via the ILL service. Refer to Book ILL Service for more details.

2. ILL Requests (Photocopies)

  This service enables you to order photocopies of materials from other Keio Media Centers or non-Keio libraries via the Interlibrary Loan system. Refer to Photocopy ILL Service for more details.   

Notes

  • Photocopying of material must comply with copyright laws. For details, refer to:About Copyrights.
  • Fill out and send a separate request form for each item you need photocopied.
  • First, check KOSMOS to make sure the item you are looking for is not held in the Shonan Fujisawa Media Center collection. Photocopying requests for material held in the Shonan Fujisawa Media Center will not be accepted. If there is a copy held in the Shonan Fujisawa Media Center collection, please make photocopies yourself.
  • Some journals are available in their entirety in electronic form. Before making an ILL photocopy request for a journal, check to see if it is available on: Keio University Electronic Journals.
  • You must submit the request in your own name. Requests by proxy are not accepted.
  • Be sure to enter all the required information on the request form, including applicant and request material details. If you do not have complete bibliographic information for the item, please check in advance with the Shonan Fujisawa Media Center Reference Desk, or submit a query through the Online Reference form and Media Center staff will search for the material for you.
  • The required delivery time and charges for photocopies vary with each library. See Photocopy ILL Services for more information.
  • The Media Center will determine which library to send your request to.
  • Requests for specific paper size, photocopy method, stapling or binding, etc. are not accepted.
  • If you do not have complete bibliographic information for the item, please check in advance with the Shonan Fujisawa Media Center Reference Desk, or submit a query through the Online Reference form and Media Center staff will search for the material for you.Receipt for Payment
    • The name on the ILL receipt will automatically be entered as name of the applicant on the request form.
    • Only in cases where a different name to the applicant (such as the name of a Research Laboratory) is required on the receipt may you enter it in the "Address of Receipt" field in the "Payment" section of the request form.
    • The name on the receipt cannot be changed after a request is submitted.

3. Purchase Requests

  The Shonan Fujisawa Media Center is able to purchase materials to support the academic and research activities of SFC students and faculty members. Please note, however, that we are not always able to fulfill purchase requests due to content or other reasons.

Notes

  • Orders for Japanese materials will take 2-3 weeks to fulfill, while foreign materials will take 1-3 months. If you need materials urgently, please use the ILL services.
  • The Shonan Fujisawa Media Center renews its subscriptions to foreign journals once a year in fall, at which time it considers purchase requests submitted by August that year. Therefore it may take some time before requested journals arrive at the Media Center.
  • Please note that the Media Center is not able to purchase materials that are out of print.
  • Some journals that are not in the Media Center can be read in full online. Please check Keio University Electronic Journals before making a request.

4. Reserve Material

  Faculty members can request that material required for their courses and seminars be held at the Media Center for a certain period of time. Such material will not be available for lending, allowing a large number of students to access popular material. The faculty member in charge of the course or seminar should submit the request . Refer to Reserve Material for more information.

5. Reference Question

  Students, faculty members and staff affiliated with Keio University can use the Online Reference form to ask reference questions. Please refer to the Reference Service page for more information.

  Persons from other universities and persons not affiliated with Keio University may submit questions via the Comments and Requests Form.

6. Letter of Introduction

  A letter of introduction is generally required to view materials at other libraries.
  Refer to Use of Other Libraries for more details.

Notes

    • In your application, please indicate the specific materials you wish to use.
    • It is a good idea to check KOSMOS to make sure that the materials you need are not held in the Shonan Fujisawa Media Center collection.
    • Apply for your letter of introduction well in advance, as it can take some time to contact other libraries and arrange permission.
    • If you wish to visit a library for several days, a separate letter of introduction is required for each day.
    • You will be notified by email when your letter is ready. Please collect your letter of introduction at the Reference Desk on the second floor (Collection time: Weekdays, 9:15 a.m.--5:00 p.m.).

    7. Writing & Research Consultant (WRC)

    Postdoctoral fellows and students of doctoral programs will provide support for writing theses and papers. This service is available only during semesters.

    Check the Writing & Research Consultant schedule on the WRC website, and come directly to the 2F Event Space. Reservations are also accepted.

    8. Seminars on Demand / Library Tour

    We will provide seminars, database workshops and library tours for finding research materials in accordance with the theme of the research group. You can combine bibliographic search seminar and library tour, or combine literature search and workshop of citation management tools, and you can freely arrange according to your wishes. Please apply at least 1 week in advance.

    - Bibliographic search seminar for freshmen in the research group.
    - Workshop on specific databases and tools such as Mendeley, Refworks, Nikkei NEEDS
    - Seminar on research writing by Writing and Research Consultants
    - Workshop on writing cited reference
    - Tour for introducing materials and services in the Library.

    9. Permission for Survey/Filming within the Library

      Keio University students must receive permission from the Media Center to conduct surveys and film within the library. Please submit an Application Form for Survey/Filming within the Shonan Fujisawa Media Center at least one day in advance. (Requests submitted on the day will not be accepted.)

    10. CNS Questions

      The Information Technology Center (ITC) staff will email answers to questions about the Campus Network System (CNS).
